Hormone Testing
Oral Progesterone and Topical Progesterone Cream is Compared
by Eckhart, MD
Most of the time hormone testing is useless clinically for my patients. The reason why I do NOT do hormone testing is that xenoestrogens do NOT appear on the hormone test. In other words, lavender mimics estrogen. However, lavender does not show up on the hormone test. The hormone test only measures estradiol, progesterone, estrone, estriol, or testosterone. The hormone test does NOT measure lavender.
The second problem with the hormone test is that it does not tell you why the hormone if abnormal are elevated or depressed. For the vast majority of my patients, the hormone test for their is age is NORMAL. After the age of 35, for most cycles but not all cycles, the progesterone levels for women are less than 1% of normal before the age of 35. This is because the women are undergoing anovulatory cycles for most cycles, but not all cycles. Usually during a cycle before the age of 35, the follicle comes up and pops out an egg. The used follicle then becomes the corpus luteum and produces progesterone. After the age of 35, during an anovulatory cycle, the follicle comes up, does not pop out an egg and just goes back down. No corpus luteum is produced and no progesterone is produced. Thus, after the age of 35, for most cycles but not all cycles no progesterone is produced. Thus, a low progesterone after the age of 35 for most cycles, but not all cycles, the progesterone level NORMALLY is zero. Why would you want to do a hormone test to find this out?
For some patients, estradiol is measured to be high. But the question is why is their estradiol high? Several cups of coffee causes estradiol to go 70% higher. So then, I ask the women to stop coffee. There are also other foods and chemicals that cause estradiol to go high. So instead of taking a hormone test, I usually cut to the chase and ask the patient if they are eating those foods or using those certain ingredients in their cosmetics that makes their estradiol go high. Why do a hormone test? Just ask if they are using foods or herbs that make their estradiol to go high and stop them!
I used to do hormone testing. But I found that these simple questions are easier and quicker to assess whether there is a problem.
- Are you over 35?
- Are you drinking coffee?
- Are you eating these foods or putting them on your skin?
In my opinion, asking these questions is faster, easier, and cheaper than doing a hormone test.
Oral Progesterone Compared to Topical Progesterone Cream
List of Chemicals and Herbs to Topically Avoid
Lotions, shampoos, deodorant put on the skin has TEN TIMES the POTENCY of your diet for these diseases. For these diseases, diet doesn't matter much compared to what is put on the skin. Progesterone cream / oil can help to balance out small loads of xenoestrogens. However, if large loads of xenoestrogens are topically put on the skin, progesterone cream may make you worse temporarily.
